“Playing Poker with Daniel Negreanu”: The New Weekly Poker Column from Poker Champion and 2004 Player of the Year Daniel Negreanu

LOS ANGELES, March 28 — Move over, baseball, the game of poker is well on its way to becoming the national pastime! And Daniel Negreanu, the all-time money winner on the professional poker circuit, has teamed with Card Shark Media to write and distribute the most informative, entertaining and engaging weekly newspaper poker column ever, specifically targeted to the huge and fast-growing amateur poker player market. Playing Poker with Daniel Negreanu launches today and is available to newspapers throughout the USA and Canada.

Daniel Negreanu (pronounced Na–GRON–yew) is unquestionably the top dog in professional poker. He is the 2004 ESPN Player of the Year, 2004 Card Player Magazine Player of the Year, and 2004 World Poker Tour Player of the Year. And what’s more, Negreanu is the all-time professional poker prize money leader having earned almost $6 million since turning pro in 1998. Negreanu is a multi-year winner of the most prestigious World Series of Poker (WSOP), and is the owner of three coveted WSOP bracelets.

Playing Poker with Daniel Negreanu will appear weekly in newspapers throughout North America and will target the estimated 50 million active poker players and spectators. Negreanu, an experienced writer with syndicated column experience under his belt, will offer poker strategies, tips, rules, and anecdotes from his experience playing with poker’s best professionals and most famous celebrities. The column will address a multitude of poker games – not just Texas Hold ‘Em. Home game players, beginners, and even Daniel’s pro competitors will be reading Playing Poker with Daniel Negreanu to learn from the best!

“My success in poker is the result of hard work, determination, and yes, some good fortune,” says Negreanu. “I am proud of my accomplishments on the table and proud of my accomplishments off the table that have helped poker become the phenomenon that it is. Like Tiger Woods in golf, my plan is to stay in the number one position and to give back to the millions of poker fans.” Negreanu continues, “I will always be a poker fan first and a player second. That’s why I’m so excited about this new opportunity to reach poker fans with useful information that can be put to use immediately.”

Daniel Negreanu is known for his aggressive style of play and his engaging personality. Among his major tournament victories are the multiple wins at the World Series of Poker, the Five Diamond World Poker Classic, the Borgata World Poker Tour Champioship, Championship Poker at the Plaza, and the Los Angeles Poker Classic.

Negreanu makes frequent television appearances both as a player and as a commentator. He writes a successful column for Card Player magazine. He has been profiled in newspapers across the United States and Canada. He has authored poker books, including a remarkable contribution in “Texas Dolly” Doyle Brunson’s SuperSystem II.

Daniel Negreanu, age 30, was born in Toronto, Canada to Romanian parents. In 1998, he ventured to Las Vegas to play in his first WSOP event – and he won! Now a full-time Las Vegas resident, Daniel is a fixture at poker tournaments around the world and is a regular at the big cash games in Vegas.

Card Shark Media (CSM) was founded in 2004 with the sole mission of providing unique and entertaining poker-related content to the newspaper marketplace. In 2005, Card Shark Media and Daniel Negreanu entered into an agreement in which CSM was named the exclusive producer and distributor of Daniel’s syndicated poker columns to newspapers in the USA and Canada.

Daniel N. Gets his own Syndicated Column
John Caldwell

April 15, 2005 — Daniel Negreanu is quickly becoming one of, if not the most well known poker player on the planet. Daniel has decided he could use his notoriety to entertain newspaper readers all over the county. Card Shark Media has announced today that it now has the column "'Playing Poker with Daniel Negreanu" available to any newspaper that would like to run it in the US, or Canada.

Given Daniel's sense of humor in his blog, the column will probably be very entertaining, funny, and educational. Is there a law that all Canadians have to be funny?

A couple of things that the column promises sound very interesting. For one, Daniel's strategy advice will focus on a variety of games, not just no limit hold em. This is good, because since reading Daniel's chapter in Super System 2 on triple draw, I have been horribly addicted to playing the game on Ultimate Bet.

Negreanu also promises to include some 'slice of life' moments from the tour, and needless to say some ribbing of the other top players he hangs out with. This column will probably amount to the "Best of Daniel's Blog", but that isn't necessarily a bad thing, as Daniel's Blog is often very entertaining. Given the 50 million or so Americans who say they play poker, this column will be new information to about 99.999% of them.
